Although the NCAA just wrapped up its basketball tournaments, basketball is still going strong here in Dharamsala. After class today, I walked down to the local basketball court. Two teams in uniforms were warming up to play. As I took a seat on a ledge just outside the fenced court, a cow walked in front of me and blocked my view.
Soon the game began (and the cow moved out of the way). A few minutes into the game, I was approached by one of the past Science for Monks and Nuns translators. He now works for the Central Tibetan Administration. He was on a team that had finished playing. He recognized me and invited me to sit with him to watch the new game. The games going on now are part of the 3-week Central Tibetan Administration Interdepartmental basketball tournament. This is one of two tournaments held each year. The games are held after the players get off work. I'll try to get back to the court later this week to catch another game.
