After class today, we took a field trip to Gonjang Monastery where one of the monks in the program lives. This monk is a senior member of the Gonjang Monastery. This monastery is located about 25 minutes from the main part of Gangtok. Of course, this required another harrowing trip through the streets of this very busy city.
Not only is the monastery a beautiful structure, but it is located on a steep hill with views of the valley below. At the monastery, we were given a special tour of the place and treated to tea and cookies. It seems like any time is a good time for tea.
